Diversity, Wellbeing & Inclusion Racial Equality at MacRoberts

At MacRoberts, we understand that diversity across all levels of staff, including senior leadership, improves organisational performance.

We want to appeal to the widest talent pool of potential candidates and are committed to removing the barriers that some groups face in entering, and progressing within, the profession.

The race sub-group of our committee has a focus on ensuring that we are doing what we can to ensure that solicitors from ethnic backgrounds are represented at all levels. We have worked closely with the Scottish Ethnic Minority Lawyers’ Association (SEMLA) and the Law Society of Scotland (LSS) to understand what hurdles exist for those from an ethnic background. SEMLA have cited that the biggest issue faced is that of entering the profession. In an attempt to break down barriers, MacRoberts co-hosted an event with SEMLA which focused on linking their student and graduate members face to face with high-profile role models and some of our solicitors. We spoke about the hiring process and the LSS provided advice on CV preparation, as well as general tips.

As a firm, we support, attend and promote professional and community events that support diversity and wellbeing for all solicitors, including those from an ethnic background. If you have any queries, or want to find out more about this sub-group, please contact People & Development team.
